Mental Health Clinician
Department: Psychiatry – Mental Health | Correctional Health Services
Location: East Elmhurst, NY 11370
Start Date: January 26, 2026
Job Details
- Shift: Evening Shift
- Shift Time: 4:00 PM – 12:00 AM
- Schedule: 5 days per week
- Hours: 40 hours per week (8 hours per day)
- Setting: Correctional Health Services
Position Summary
The Mental Health Clinician will provide assessment, diagnosis, and therapeutic services to adult patients within a correctional health setting. This role involves working with individuals experiencing severe mental illness, substance use disorders, and behavioral health challenges. The clinician will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, ethical, and effective mental health care delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments and diagnostic evaluations
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
- Provide individual and group therapeutic interventions
- Manage patients with serious mental illness and substance use histories
- Document assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes accurately
- Collaborate with medical, nursing, and correctional staff
- Ensure compliance with Department of Corrections (DOC) and PREA standards
- Follow infection control and safety protocols at all times
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field
- Active New York State license in one of the following:
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
- Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC)
- Licensed Psychologist
- Experience working with diagnosed mental health patients
- Ability to work in a correctional or high-acuity behavioral health environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience providing both assessment and treatment services
- Background in inpatient psychiatric, correctional, or related settings
- Experience working with adults with:
- Behavioral health disorders
- Substance use disorders
- Severe and persistent mental illness
Additional Requirements
- Local candidates preferred
- DOC and PREA training must be completed through the client
- Infection Control Certificate required per client request
