Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced LTAC (Long-Term Acute Care) RN Traveler for a 13-week contract in the Omaha, NE area at a Select Specialty Hospital. This role focuses on providing complex, individualized care to medically complex patients requiring extended hospitalization. Responsibilities include comprehensive nursing assessments within 8 hours of admission, development of individualized care plans, active participation in interdisciplinary team conferences, accurate and timely documentation, patient/family education, initiation of discharge planning from day of admission, and direct patient care utilizing the nursing process. Travelers will also support unit operations, mentor ancillary staff, ensure safety, and contribute to a positive team environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform nursing assessments on all patients within 8 hours of admission and develop individualized plans of care.
- Identify teaching needs and collaborate with patient/family and interdisciplinary team.
- Provide timely patient status updates for team conferences.
- Deliver direct patient care using the nursing process with emphasis on patient/family education and rehabilitation goals.
- Initiate discharge planning on admission and provide anticipatory teaching.
- Communicate pertinent changes in patient status to support continuity of care and safety.
- Provide direction, training, and supervision to ancillary personnel.
- Ensure personal and environmental safety per policies.
- Contribute positively to unit functioning and team building.
- Maintain communication with leadership regarding service needs.
- Assume charge responsibilities as needed following orientation.
- Pursue ongoing professional development.
Qualifications
Required:
- Active Nebraska RN license in good standing (or compact license).
- Recent experience in LTAC, ventilator management, or medically complex patient care.
- Strong assessment, documentation, and patient education skills.
- Certifications: BLS (American Heart Association Healthcare Provider); ACLS preferred.
- Basic keyboarding skills and willingness to develop computer competency within six months.
- Fluent in English; able to communicate clearly.
Preferred:
- Previous experience in long-term acute care or rehabilitation settings.
Schedule
- 36 hours per week, consisting of three 12-hour night shifts
- Weekend and holiday requirements per unit policy.
- Contract length: 13 weeks.
- Cancellation policy: Up to 3 shift call-offs per contract.
