Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract Opportunity

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Specialty: Registered Nurse (OR)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

  • Work in a Level 1 Trauma 18-bed Operating Room.
  • Surgical specialties include General, Robotic, Laparoscopic, Trauma, Orthopedic, Neurosurgery, Spinal, Ophthalmology, ENT, Plastics, Burns, Urology, GYN, and Transplant.
  • Shifts available: Day/Evenings (8, 10, and 12 hours)
  • Hours: 0630-2330, 40 hours per week
  • Call hours:
    • Monday-Friday: 2100-0630
    • Saturday and Sunday: 0630-1900 and 1900-0630

Responsibilities

  • Provide care during surgical procedures.
  • Circulate and scrub, focusing on Orthopedic, Neurosurgery, Spine, and General Surgery cases.
  • Collaborate closely with the surgical team.
  • Maintain patient records using EPIC.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room RN experience (highest required years of experience).
  • Experience in Level 1 trauma centers with extensive scrub experience.
  • EPIC proficiency.
  • BCLS certification.

Preferred Experience

  • ENT, GU, Plastics, Burns specialties.

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA approved (Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable).
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA approved (Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable). Required for certain units.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - Required for ER, ER OB, and ER Psych units.
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) - Required for L&D, Post-Partum, and OB units.
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - Facility-specific expiration policy.
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam - Required prior to start.
  • Unit-specific Competency Exams required.
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam - Required for all RNs within 1 year of start (annual renewal required).
  • State License Verification within 30 days of start.
  • NURSYS Verification for RNs.
  • NIH Stroke Certification - Required for most ICU, PCU, ED, and Brain & Spine units (check unit-specific requirements).
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement - Required annually.
  • Tech Cert Verification (for Surgical Technologists and SPTs) - Required within 30 days of start.

Background & Compliance

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting.
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring.
  • Education accreditation confirmation required for nursing degrees.
  • Transcript/Diploma verification required.
  • Pending background check attestation allowed if fingerprint results are pending.
  • Facility-specific dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment required.
  • Confidential Fraud Waste Abuse and Compliance Reporting Mechanism Form required.
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse Training Certificate required prior to start and updated annually.
  • Ethics and Compliance Policies must be reviewed and signed annually for new contracts.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12).
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive. TB questionnaire required.
  • MMR (Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if low titer.
  • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable).
  • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions reviewed.
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending drug screens allowed).
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31). Mask required if declining.
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended; proof of primary vaccination collected if available.

Additional Requirements

  • 2 professional references required; at least 1 must be from a manager/director or formal leadership.
  • Employment application and skills checklist required.
  • Fingerprinting must be completed using specific codes and within 1 year of start; new fingerprinting required if break in service exceeds 90 days.
  • Proof of fingerprint completion required for subcontractors.
