Key Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care across multiple units including Medical Unit, Laulima Unit (Surgical Acute), and Cardiovascular Unit
• Float between units as needed to cover staffing gaps
• Utilize clinical equipment including Meditech EMR, Pyxis, wound vacs, and chest tubes
• Assess, monitor, and manage patients’ conditions, following hospital policies and procedures
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to provide quality care
• Participate in orientation and unit-specific training prior to start

Required Qualifications

• Hawaii RN License (must be active at start of assignment)
• Experience: 2–10 years in adult med-surg, step-down, or related areas
• Certifications:
  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • Preferred: PALS, TNCC, ENPC, Procedural Sedation

Unit & Facility Details

• Medical Unit: 77 beds | Nurse-to-patient ratio 1:6 days/evenings, 1:8 nights
• Laulima Unit (Surgical Acute): 18 beds | Ratio 1:6
• Cardiovascular Unit: 15 beds | Ratio 1:4
• EMR: Epic
• Dress Code: Professional nursing attire (clean scrubs)

Scheduling & Call Requirements

• Orientation: Scheduled per unit
• Holiday Coverage: Required
• On-Call: Pager and call-back requirements as needed

Additional Information

• Candidates must arrive Thursday before start date for employee health appointment on Friday
• No guarantee of hours; facility may adjust schedules as needed
• Housing and airfare fluctuate by season (research recommended before submission)
• Professional, flexible attitude required to work in multiple units as needed

Location: Hilo Medical Center, Hilo, HI
Start Date: March 2, 2026 | Contract: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights, 12-hour shifts (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM)

 

Overview:
Join Hilo Medical Center as a flexible RN on the Night Shift Flex Pool. You will float between Medical, Surgical (Laulima), and Cardiovascular units, providing high-quality patient care in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Requirements:

• Active Hawaii RN License by start date
• 2–10 years nursing experience (Med-Surg, Step-Down preferred)
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS (Preferred: PALS, TNCC, ENPC, Procedural Sedation)
