Unit: Stepdown/MedSurg (29-bed unit, opening Q1 2026)

Experience Requirements

• Open to new and experienced nurses
• Must be able to manage:

  • 6 patients on med-surg floor
  • 3 patients on stepdown unit
• No explicit years of experience stated; open to all experience levels

Patient Population & Unit Details

• Flex unit serving both floor and stepdown patients
• Diverse medical diagnoses, primarily medicine unit
• Nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • Stepdown: 3:1
  • Floor: 6:1
• Nurse aids (Clinical Associates) present with goal ratio 1:10 (3 CAs at all times)

Clinical Responsibilities

• RNs will titrate drips with written orders
• Common drips include:

  • Heparin, insulin, anti-hypertensives, antiarrhythmics
  • Phenobarbitol, ketamine
  • Morphine/Dilaudid/Fentanyl PCAs
  • TPN
• Respiratory equipment encountered: CPAP, BiPAP on floor and stepdown; HiFlow and vents in stepdown (vent settings adjusted by ICU)
• Telemetry: Central monitoring available; RNs not required to read their own strips

Staffing & Supervision

• Charge RNs and House Supervisors available 24/7
• Charge RNs may take patient assignments initially but goal is to have a free charge RN

Scheduling & Shifts

• 12-hour shifts
• Block scheduling not guaranteed but accommodated when possible
• Weekend positions available (agency RN roles)
• Expect to work about half of recognized holidays
• No call or standby requirements
• Floating: First to float or be pulled to other floor/stepdown units

Dress Code

• Royal blue and white scrubs

Orientation

• Unit-specific orientation provided
• Night shift hours: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
• Every other weekend schedule
