Job Summary: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics (Travel/Contract)

Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: 3x12-hour or 4x12-hour shifts; Extended Weekends (EW) required
  • Specialty: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics with focus on Labor & Delivery (L&D), NICU, PICU, or Pediatrics
  • Unit Assignment: Primarily L&D; may float to PICU and some Pediatric Acute Care
  • Facility Type Experience Required:
    • Children's Hospital experience within the last 3 years required
    • Open to candidates with experience at a Level 1 adult facility
  • Minimum Specialty Experience:
    • 2 years minimum NICU experience
    • Must have L&D experience
  • Additional Experience: NICU or PICU experience required; home unit will be assigned accordingly but may change based on facility needs

Licensure & Certifications Required

  • Indiana State License (must be in hand to submit)
  • ACLS (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
  • BLS (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
  • NBRC RRT
  • NRP (required for those placed in L&D; traveler can obtain once offered)
  • PALS preferred (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
  • Education must be accredited by CoARC and regionally accredited by CHEA

Prior Travel Experience

  • First-time travelers accepted (no prior travel experience required)

Additional Requirements & Information

  • Must have Children's Hospital experience within the last 3 years or equivalent adult Level 1 facility experience
  • Must have L&D experience as primary assignment will be in L&D
  • Floating to PICU and some Pediatric Acute Care units may be required
  • IU Health will not allow Indiana RNs to work at their facilities effective 11/30/24, except for Periop/OR RN’s, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (Periop includes ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS)

Required Documents & Compliance

  • Valid Indiana State License verification (within 30 days before start)
  • Background checks including:
    • 7-year history SSN Trace, County Criminal, Statewide, National Sex Offender, FACIS Level III
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks (within 30 days of start)
  • Education verification and official transcripts/diplomas
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months (specific respirators approved)
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • TB test (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT) within 1 year
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations accepted)
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations accepted)
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap preferred but not required
    • Seasonal Flu vaccination/documentation required (no declinations accepted)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
  • Competency exams including medication/pharmacology test and unit competency exam
  • Color blind testing (Ishihara exam or equivalent) with minimum 100% score
  • References: Minimum 2 references from recent employment verified within 2 years; must be from charge, manager, supervisor, or above
  • Skills checklist within 12 months and annually thereafter
  • Completion of IU Health mandatory RRT modules (for RRT candidates only) prior to orientation

Notes

  • Education must be accredited by CoARC and regionally accredited by CHEA
  • IU Health requires completion of facility-specific compliance and orientation documents prior to start
  • On-site fit testing is available only as a last resort with limitations
  • Candidates must complete all required certifications and documentation timely to avoid delays or cancellation

This position is suitable for respiratory therapists with pediatric and neonatal experience, especially those comfortable working in L&D, NICU, and PICU settings. First-time travel therapists are welcome to apply.
