Job Description: Inpatient Rehabilitation Speech Therapist (SLP) – Contract

Job Type: Contract
Position Urgency: Normal
Duration: 26 weeks
Positions Available: 1
Schedule: Generally a set schedule, 5 days per week; may include one weekend day
Holiday Coverage: Required
Setting: Inpatient Rehabilitation / Acute Care

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) for an inpatient rehabilitation contract assignment. This role requires strong acute care experience and the ability to independently perform Modified Barium Swallow (MBS) studies in a radiology setting without direct radiologist supervision. The SLP will support inpatient rehab patients, with potential referrals to skilled nursing and outpatient settings as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing evaluations
  • Independently conduct Modified Barium Swallow (MBS) studies in radiology
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for inpatient rehab patients
  • Provide dysphagia management and patient/family education
  • Document evaluations and treatments accurately and timely per department standards
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary rehabilitation and medical teams
  • Float to another facility if needed based on census and staffing levels

Equipment & Systems

  • EPIC electronic medical record (EMR) for inpatient documentation
  • Meditech computerized documentation (inpatient)
  • Paper documentation for outpatient services

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of Speech Therapy experience, preferably in rehab hospital or SNF settings
  • Demonstrated ability to independently complete MBS studies
  • Strong clinical judgment and ability to work independently

Licensure & Certifications

  • Active Hawaii rehabilitation license in Speech Therapy (required by assignment start)
    • Candidates without an active license must apply upon offer acceptance
  • BLS/BCLS required
  • ASHA certification required

Dress Code

  • Scrubs or professional attire per facility dress code policies

Orientation & Training

  • EMR documentation training provided
  • Orientation to rehabilitation department workflows and expectations included

Additional Requirements

  • Must arrive the Thursday prior to assignment start to complete employee health requirements on Friday
  • Bilingual skills not required
