Unit Overview
Department: Women’s Health – Ambulatory Clinic
Role: LPN
Location: 14th Floor Practice, 1650 Grand Concourse
Unit & Clinic Details
- Clinic Size: 22 exam rooms (3 rooms per suite)
- Providers per Day: 10–13 (MDs, NPs, Midwives)
- High-Risk Clinics: 2 days/week (GDM, HTN)
- Patient Volume: ~200 patients/day
- Walk-In Clinic:
- Open M–F at 8:30 AM
- Closes around 10:30 AM (20–30 patients daily)
Patient Population & Common Diagnoses
GYN:
- Annual exams and screenings
- Pap smears
- Colposcopies
- Endometrial biopsies
- IUD placement and removal
- TOP (Termination of Pregnancy) services
OB:
- Postpartum blood pressure monitoring
- Hypertension management
Procedures & Skills
- Assisting with IUD insertions/removals
- Assisting with TOP procedures
- Colposcopies
- Endometrial biopsies
- Cervical screenings
- Specimen collection and lab processing
- Point-of-care testing (POC labs)
LPN Responsibilities
- Float between medication administration and clinic floor as needed
- Patient intake and basic screenings
- Lab specimen collection
- No patient education responsibilities
- LPNs typically oversee PCTs/MAs
Staffing & Leadership
- Manager/Supervisor: Clinic Coordinator (Robin)
- Team Structure: RNs → LPNs → PCTs
- Support Staff: PCTs (used regularly)
- First-Time Travelers: Accepted if they are quick learners and can jump in
Required & Preferred Certifications
- Required: BLS
- Preferred: Phlebotomy (high lab volume and needs)

Scheduling & Shifts
- Clinic Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM
- Shifts:
- 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
- 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
- 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM
- Tuesday Evening Clinic:
- 1 LPN scheduled from 11:00 AM – 8:30 PM
- Evening clinic staffed by volunteers (1 NP, 2 midwives, residents; ~6 total staff)

Floating Requirements
- May float to other ambulatory care and outpatient GYN clinics
Orientation
- General orientation
- Up to 1 week with a preceptor
- Focus on clinic environment, policies, and procedures
