General Information
Beds: 28; average census 13-16
Minimum experience: 1.5 years (system requirement)
Will you accept a first-time traveler? Yes, only with 2+ years of experience
Travelers must live >100 miles away from facility
Permanent staff must wait 1 full year to return as a traveler
Patient Types:
Neonates all gestational ages
Level 3 NICU
Diagnoses include, but not limited to: Low Birth weight, High frequency ventilation, nitric oxide, total body cooling, feeders/growers
No ECMO, No cardiac surgery at this time
Patient Ratios:
RN: 1:1-1:4
Required Certifications:
BLS, NRP, PALS; STABLE (preferred)
Required Education:
Completion of a nursing education program that is approved by a board of nursing; Registered Nurse (RN) - South Dakota Board of Nursing
Skills required:
Will consider 36 or 48 hour contracts
Vent management, IV Starts, chest tubes, IV med titration, experience with Neonatal Resuscitation is preferred (CN will attend deliveries)
Support on the Unit:
CNA (Ratio: 1:10)
Charge nurse: 1:25 will attend deliveries
Phlebotomy - RN
IV/VAT Team - No
RT- Yes
Neonatologist (3 on staff) and Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (10 on staff) 24/7 coverage
Transport Team 24/7 will be transferred out for surgery as there is no dedicated Peds Surgical Team
Lactation Consultants
Charting System/Equipment:
EPIC please let CRT know if traveler does not have EPIC experience so they can ask approval
Alaris
Med Dispensing: Omnicell
Floating: If yes, where?
PICU, Pediatrics, Postpartum, Newborn Nursery, Adult (Constant Observation Only) - (overflow on peds unit)
Orientation: (facility and unit)
General Traveler orientation and 1 day/1 night on unit
Scheduling:
Weekend rotation: no weekend rotation, traveler may work mostly weekends
Will they be on call? If so, what is that schedule? Yes, only if placed on call for Low Census
Holiday Expectations: Yes, 2/4 major holidays
Approval of time off? If pre-approved by Management
