Start Dates Needed:
- 1 Traveler – 2/3 start
- 1 Traveler – 2/15 start
Location: Maine
License: Maine RN license or Compact required
Position Overview
Penobscot Valley Hospital is seeking experienced Travel RNs to provide high-quality, age-appropriate patient care across all populations. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong clinical judgment, effective communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced hospital environment.
Requirements
- Active RN license (Maine or Compact)
- BSN preferred
- BLS required, ACLS preferred
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Effective verbal and written communication
- Ability to assess and care for patients of all age groups
Immunizations (Required)
- Varicella: 2 doses or titer
- Hepatitis B: 3 doses or titer (declination accepted for HepB only)
- MMR: 2 doses or titer
- Tdap
- PPD: 2-step or titer within last 12 months
- Flu shot required during flu season
Agency Requirements
- Agency W-9
- Certificate of Insurance (COI):
- Workers’ Comp
- Liability $1M / $3M
Onboarding
- Traveler reports to Human Resources on Day 1 for onboarding
Key Responsibilities
- Perform initial and ongoing age-appropriate nursing assessments
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care
- Administer medications using the “Five Rights” via Med Verify
- Monitor and evaluate patient response to treatments and medications
- Provide patient and family education, including discharge planning
- Communicate patient status and care updates to the healthcare team
- Document all care in accordance with hospital policies
- Participate in MDT meetings and bedside rounding
- Support quality improvement initiatives and patient safety standards
- Assist with patient charges and follow-up calls as required
- Participate in emergency preparedness drills and disaster response when needed
Work Environment
- Requires standing, walking, bending, lifting, and pushing patients/equipment
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs
- Exposure to infectious diseases, bloodborne pathogens, and cleaning chemicals
- Must have adequate visual and hearing acuity to assess patients safely
