Unit Overview Unit: 3W Stepdown Beds: 28 private beds Patient Population: Heavy cardiac focus – dysrhythmias, CVAs, mixed acuity patients, and stepdowns from ICU Telemetry: Yes Monitor techs available RNs must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips Unit serves as the central monitoring station for the hospital Staffing & Ratios Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: Stepdown: 1:4–5 Med/Surg acuity: 1:6 Charge Nurse: Days: No patient assignment Nights: May take a patient assignment Nurse Aides: Days & Mid shift: 2 per shift No CNA coverage after 11:00 PM Scheduling RN Shifts: Days: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM Nights: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend Days: Saturday/Sunday Nights: Friday/Saturday/Sunday Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday (rotates with permanent staff) Block Scheduling: Allowed Orientation: 2 floor-specific shifts with a preceptor 🟦 Leadership Note: The unit director is highly communicative and supportive, works closely with staff and travelers on scheduling, and is known for being very easy to work with. Certifications Required BLS ACLS NIHSS Clinical Requirements EMR: Cerner (transitioning to Epic) Drips (Must be able to titrate): Cardizem Nitroglycerin Dopamine Dobutamine Heparin Insulin is set-rate only No sedation drips Respiratory Equipment: BiPAP, CPAP, High Flow Vent Management: No invasive vents Support Services Hospitalist: In-house 24/7 Intensivist: In ICU 7 days/week (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM) On-call after hours NP coverage at times IV Team: None ICU charge nurses or ICU director assist with difficult IV access Respiratory Therapy: In-house 24/7 Pharmacy: In-house 24/7 Floating May float to ICU as helping hands only Dress Code Scrubs: Navy Blue Jackets (if worn): Must also be Navy Blue
