Cardiac / Vascular Ultrasound Technologist
Job Summary
Responsible for performing diagnostic cardiac and/or vascular ultrasound procedures to produce accurate measurements and images for physician interpretation and diagnosis. Provides immediate communication of critical findings to physicians and nursing staff to support timely, life-saving interventions. Assists physicians during complex cardiac and vascular procedures across multiple care settings, including the OR, Hybrid Lab, Cath Lab, and Cardiac Access Department.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform advanced adult and/or pediatric cardiac ultrasound procedures, including TEE, stress echocardiography, and/or peripheral vascular studies (arterial, renal, transcranial Doppler).
- Demonstrate proper technique, efficiency, and clinical judgment during all procedures.
- Review patient history, clinical data, and prior reports before procedures.
- Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment, transducers, and digital imaging systems to ensure optimal diagnostic quality.
- Communicate abnormal or critical findings promptly to the interpreting physician.
- Assist physicians during complex procedures, including TAVR, SAVR, TandemHeart, Lariat procedures, and pseudoaneurysm compression.
- Accurately document all procedures, findings, charges, and patient data in departmental systems and the electronic medical record.
- Support departmental efficiency by anticipating equipment and supply needs and utilizing resources responsibly.
- Schedule patients efficiently to support workflow and patient care needs.
- Participate in quality assurance (QA), accreditation, and educational initiatives.
- Maintain required clinical competencies and professional certifications.
- Adhere to infection control, safety, confidentiality, and hospital policies.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
Decision-Making & Collaboration
- Exercises independent clinical judgment within established protocols.
- Coordinates and leads workflow activities without supervisory responsibility.
- Works directly with patients, physicians, leadership, and healthcare staff at all levels.
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 6 months of related cardiac or vascular ultrasound experience
- Ability to work independently and apply critical thinking skills
- Strong communication skills with physicians, surgeons, and clinical staff
- Ability to participate in on-call rotation as required
Education
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED
Preferred:
- Graduate of a Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound or Cardiac Ultrasound program
Certification & Licensure
Required:
One of the following:
- RDCS or RVT – ARDMS
- RCS or RVS – CCI
- BLS Certification
Shift & Systems
- Echocardiography
- EPIC experience preferred
- Previous traveler experience preferred
