Description
Job Summary:
The Cardiovascular Technologist – H&V Specialist provides continuous, comprehensive care to adult and geriatric invasive cardiology, invasive peripheral, and angiography patients. Utilizes specialized knowledge and skills in compliance with standards of care and customer service. Performs angiographic procedures, including invasive vascular treatments, ensuring optimal image quality. Provides culturally-based, age-specific care, promoting partnership between patients, families, and the healthcare team.
Responsibilities:
- Recognize patient signs, symptoms, and pertinent data; report abnormal findings to physician and charge RN.
- Collaborate with healthcare team using appropriate handoff methods to communicate physiological and psychological data.
- Assess patient, family, and environment for safety risks; perform safety initiatives proactively.
- Provide individualized, holistic patient and family education with the multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrate critical thinking regarding physician orders, referrals, and contacts with healthcare professionals.
- Respond to emergency situations skillfully and with precision.
- Implement infection control and safety measures; use appropriate protective devices and equipment.
- Function as a scrub assistant to the cardiologist/radiologist using sterile technique; aid in diagnostic/interventional procedures in the cath lab and angiography.
- Set up sterile trays and specialized equipment according to procedure.
- Maintain hemostasis post-procedure using compression devices or manual compression; manage potential insertion site complications.
- Maintain competency in arterial/venous sheath removal and groin management.
- Follow department policies for radiation safety; provide protection for patients, self, and others.
- Properly screen females of childbearing age for pregnancy.
- Wear and monitor radiation dosimetry badges and review monthly reports.
Requirements:
Experience:
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in the field.
- Minimum 1 year of Cath Lab experience; must be able to scrub and perform X-ray procedures.
- Must have Impella device experience.
- Able to perform duties with minimal supervision.
- Good understanding of cardiovascular and peripheral anatomy to support learning stimulator role during complex ablations.
- Participate in on-call coverage as required.
- Professionalism and ability to establish good relationships with patients, staff, and physicians.
Education:
- Required: Graduate from an accredited school of Radiological Technology.
Certifications/Licensure:
- Required: ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) registration.
- Valid Ohio Radiologic License (must upload proof within 7 days of offer).
- BLS (American Heart Association).
- ACLS (American Heart Association) within 1 year of hire.
Preferred Experience:
- Peripheral vascular and structural heart procedures.
- Experience in larger value hospitals.
- ACLS preferred but not required.
