Job Summary

The Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) at IHS Belcourt provides comprehensive nursing care to adult and geriatric patients with a wide range of medical conditions. The RN is responsible for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care while maintaining compliance with IHS standards, federal regulations, and nursing best practices. This role requires cultural sensitivity and a strong commitment to serving Native American communities.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care including assessment, medication administration, wound care, IV therapy, and patient monitoring
• Develop and implement individualized nursing care plans
• Monitor patient conditions and respond appropriately to changes or emergencies
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams
• Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatments, medications, and discharge plans
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in electronic health records (EHR)
• Ensure compliance with IHS policies, infection control standards, and patient safety protocols
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and unit-based activities
• Demonstrate culturally competent care aligned with IHS values and community needs

Required Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (compact state preferred; must be eligible to practice in ND)
• Minimum 1 year of recent Medical-Surgical RN experience
• BLS (AHA) certification required
• Ability to pass federal background check and credentialing
• Strong clinical judgment, communication, and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous IHS, tribal, or rural healthcare experience
• ACLS certification
• Experience working in underserved or remote healthcare settings
• Familiarity with federal healthcare systems and policies
