LABOR & DELIVERY/POSTPARTUM/ SPECIAL CARE NURSERY/PEDS/ NICU RN
DESCRIPTION:
This is a well-rounded hospital RN role that may involve adult, pediatric, obstetric, and neonatal care, depending on unit placement. It emphasizes clinical competence, teamwork, patient education, and flexibility, with additional certifications required based on the specific unit you work in.
Essential Functions (What you’ll do day to day)
- Assess and manage patient care
You’ll assess patients, create care plans, carry them out, and evaluate how well the care is working—all within your nursing scope of practice. - Patient education
You’ll teach patients and families about their conditions, treatments, medications, and recovery, tailoring education to their needs. - Follow medical orders and protocols
You’ll accurately transcribe and implement physician orders and follow established clinical protocols. - Coordinate the healthcare team
You act as a central point of communication, working with doctors, therapists, and support staff, and delegating tasks to nursing assistants or other ancillary personnel as appropriate. - Other duties as assigned
This allows flexibility for additional responsibilities depending on unit needs.
Education Requirements
- Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing school (ADN or BSN depending on facility standards).
Experience
- Hospital experience is preferred, meaning new grads may still be considered, but prior inpatient experience is a plus.
Credentials & Certifications (Licensing and required training)
You must maintain all required licenses and certifications throughout employment:
- Active RN license in Wyoming, in good standing
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS — required if working in C-section circulating or recovery roles
- PALS — required if caring for pediatric patients
- NRP — required for nurses working in the Family Care Unit
- Labor & Delivery nurses
- Intermediate Electronic Fetal Monitoring within 1 year
- Advanced Electronic Fetal Monitoring within 3 years
