Description

Licensed Respiratory Therapist – Night Shift

Schedule

  • Shifts: Nights, Weekends
  • Shift Details: 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. | Every other weekend rotation

Job Summary

The Licensed Respiratory Therapist assesses, implements, and evaluates respiratory care services in accordance with hospital standards and departmental policies. This role focuses on monitoring and evaluating patient status while delivering high-quality respiratory care across critical and non-critical settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and deliver respiratory care interventions in non-critical care areas, considering patient age, cultural, and psychosocial factors
  • Provide effective respiratory care to patients in critical care areas
  • Administer and manage mechanical ventilation (invasive and non-invasive)
  • Monitor ventilator settings, patient parameters, and patient response to changes
  • Perform computer entry, verify physician orders, and document clinical information accurately
  • Maintain complete and timely documentation in the medical record per policy
  • Respond promptly to Code Blue, RIT/CRIT calls, and patient transports
  • Communicate effectively with the healthcare team and exercise professional judgment
  • Delegate and supervise tasks as appropriate
  • Demonstrate respect for patient rights and deliver patient-centered care
  • Build effective relationships with patients, families, and medical staff
  • Maintain consistent communication with the department
  • Support departmental and hospital goals through education, in-services, and variance reporting
  • Organize, prioritize, and perform skills appropriate to the patient population
  • Anticipate patient and departmental needs
  • Participate in mentoring and training of new personnel
  • Assist in monitoring quality and appropriateness of patient care
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes
  • Coordinate and lead activities related to assigned work (non-supervisory)

Required Skills & Experience

  • 0–6 months of related respiratory therapy experience
  • Ability to perform respiratory procedures including but not limited to:
    • Nebulizer and MDI medication administration
    • Humidity and aerosol therapy
    • Medical gas administration
    • Incentive spirometry and PEP therapy
    • Pulse oximetry and respiratory mechanics
    • Chest physiotherapy
    • CPR
    • Mechanical ventilation
    • Intubation, extubating, suctioning, and bronchoscopy assistance
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to analyze clinical and numerical data
  • Basic computer skills for documentation and data entry

Education

  • Required: Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care program
  • Preferred: N/A

Certification & Licensure

  • Valid Oklahoma Provisional Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) License
    OR Temporary letter to practice issued by the Oklahoma Medical Board
  • CRT or RRT credential through the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC)
  • BLS (AHA) required within 2 months of hire
