Med-Surg RN – Unit Summary Beds: 24 Ratios: 1:5 (days & nights) Certifications: BLS Patient Types: General MS, COPD, CIWAs/withdrawals, pancreatitis, direct admits from CAHs, infections, and surgical patients (total joints—hips/knees, urology, OB/GYN, general surgery: appy/chole/hernia) Experience Required: 1 year MS or PCU Preferred: Ortho Travelers: First-time travelers accepted Clinical Details Drips: No titration; Heparin & PCAs Tele: Nurses not required to read strips; expected to be tele-aware Charge Nurse: Each shift; no assignment unless necessary; ANMs available CNAs: 3 CNAs (1:8–12); may be pulled for sitter needs RT: Available; manages all respiratory equipment (home CPAP, high flow; BiPAP initiated then transferred) Scheduling & Logistics Shifts: 7a–7p / 7p–7a; modified self-scheduling (initially plugged in; flexibility expected) Weekends: 6 × 12-hour shifts per 6-week schedule Holidays: May rotate Call: None Floating: Other MS units and sister facilities; rotational, may be mid-shift Meridian↔Nampa: 19 min (14 mi) | Meridian↔Boise: 21 min (10.8 mi) | Boise↔Nampa: 33 min (22.7 mi) Scrubs: Any color Orientation: 1–3 days with preceptor Notes: Team-oriented, traveler-friendly unit; bedside shift report required for every patient.
