Essential Functions

Patient Assessment & Care Planning

• Performs ongoing, comprehensive assessments of critically ill patients to promote optimal outcomes.
• Conducts detailed health histories and physical assessments.
• Prioritizes patient problems and needs based on actual or potential threats.
• Develops, implements, and continuously updates individualized plans of care.
• Maintains a prioritized problem list, including discharge planning and appropriate referrals.

Clinical Management

• Manages life-threatening complications in accordance with Mount Nittany Medical Center policies, procedures, and AACN standards.
• Implements interventions to:
  • Prevent life-threatening complications
  • Maintain airway and ventilation
  • Ensure hemodynamic stability
  • Maintain stable cardiac rhythms
• Recognizes and responds appropriately to cardiac arrhythmias and emergency situations.
• Assists with temporary pacemaker insertion and ambulance transport as needed.

Professional Accountability & Development

• Accepts responsibility and accountability for maintaining critical care knowledge and clinical skills.
• Maintains awareness of professional, ethical, and regulatory issues related to critical care nursing.
• Remains current on:
  • Clinical concepts and trends
  • Scientific and biomedical advances
  • Medical equipment and technology
  • Ethical standards in critical care practice
• Completes mandatory education and participates in annual competency fairs.

Licensure & Compliance

• Ensures all minimum qualifications for the position are met at all times, including licensure, certification, and registration requirements.
