Description
Interventional Radiology Technologist (ARRT)
Department: Radiology / Interventional Imaging
Position Summary
Under the direction of a Radiologist, the Interventional Radiology Technologist performs invasive diagnostic and interventional imaging procedures used to evaluate and treat a wide range of medical conditions. This role supports high-acuity cases requiring sterile technique, contrast administration, patient monitoring, and advanced imaging equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care & Procedure Support
- Explain procedures and prepare patients for interventional exams
- Obtain and verify relevant medical history
- Prepare and administer contrast media, IV solutions, and medications
- Assist the Radiologist during complex invasive procedures
- Monitor patient condition before, during, and after procedures
Procedure & Equipment Setup
- Prepare and maintain sterile fields
- Set up:
- Imaging equipment
- Physiological monitors
- Pressure injectors
- Catheters, needles, and procedural trays
- Ensure adequate supplies are available and stocked
Imaging & Radiation Safety
- Perform imaging using ALARA principles
- Select appropriate technical factors and patient positioning
- Manually control equipment to capture accurate diagnostic images
PACS & RIS
- Ensure proper image quality and transfer to PACS
- Resolve PACS exceptions and confirm image/series counts
- Complete all study documentation in RIS (begin, end, and completion)
Quality & Documentation
- Perform quality assurance procedures
- Complete all required clinical and billing documentation
- Follow departmental protocols and safety standards
Team Support
- Assist in training of new staff and students
- Demonstrate professional behaviors including AIDET, communication, teamwork, and patient-centered care
Required Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must maintain continuing medical education (CME) requirements
Certifications & Licensure
- BLS (Healthcare Provider)
- ARRT Registered with Advanced Registry in one of the following:
- Cardiac Interventional Radiography (CI)
- Vascular Interventional Radiography (VI)
- Cardiovascular Interventional Radiography (CV)
