Central Sterile Processing Technician (CSP Tech)
Department: Central Sterile / SPD
Location: Michigan
Position Summary
The Central Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for providing sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies to all members of the healthcare team. This role plays a critical part in infection control, patient safety, and surgical support by ensuring all instruments are properly cleaned, assembled, sterilized, and ready for use.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean, decontaminate, inspect, assemble, and sterilize surgical instruments and medical equipment
- Operate and monitor sterilization equipment (steam, low-temperature, etc.)
- Read and record temperature, pressure, and sterilization data
- Ensure all instruments and trays meet quality and sterility standards
- Store and distribute sterile supplies to operating rooms and clinical units
- Maintain accurate documentation and tracking of instruments and sterilization cycles
- Follow infection control, safety, and department protocols
Required Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent, plus one of the following:
- Completion of an approved Aide Training Program, or
- Completion of a Central Sterile / Central Technician Program, or
- 6 months of experience in Central Supply / Sterile Processing
Certification
- NICHSPDP Certification (CRCST or equivalent) – Required
Required Skills
- Ability to read, write, add, and subtract
- Ability to read temperature gauges and sterilization indicators
- Strong attention to detail and safety
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
