UNIT: PCU HVU
CLINICAL INTERVIEWS
Certs Required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
Experience Required: 1.5 years general nursing exp. First time traveler only accepted with 2 years PCU. Cardiac procedural recovery (CABG/TAVR/post cardiac cath), MI pharmacology, titratable Cardiac/vasoactive gtts (Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Levo, Dopamine) – please request manager approval if traveler does not have this, Heparin gtts, cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tubes management, TNK administration (preferred) EPIC preferred, needs manager approval if no exp.
Floating: Primarily to our sister unit, General PCU – as needed
Could also be floated to MS/Tele or ICU to care for PCU level patients
Could be floated within scope of practice and below
Patient Types:
This is a mixed acuity unit meaning there will be Intermediate Care acuity as well as Tele and MedSurg.
Direct admits, ED admits, Post Cath Lab, etc
MI, NSTEMI & STEMI (IABP would go to ICU), CHF, Dysrhythmia management, Pacemaker malfunction, Epicardial pacers
Backup Stroke unit and Medical Overflow
Step down level experience with post cardiac/vascular, post-cardiac cath patients, post open heart surgery, post TAVR, post EP studies, post pacemaker insertion
