Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Oncology Chemo Certified)

Job Description

Seeking Med/Surg skilled Registered Nurses for a Medical-Surgical/Oncology unit. The primary patient population includes medical-surgical patients with oncology history.

Patient Diagnoses Include:

• Acute Kidney Injury (AKI)
• Sepsis and Septic Shock
• Cancer and Malignant Neoplasms
• Acute Renal Failure (ARF)
• Encephalopathy
• Failure to Thrive (FTT)
• Diabetic Foot Ulcers
• Overdose (OD)
• Heparin drips

Responsibilities & Unit Details:

• Administer chemotherapy/biotherapy (IV, PO, or injection)
• Manage colostomy care, accessing ports, blood product administration
• Central line blood draws, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management
• Manage surgical drains, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
• Provide nasal cannula and non-invasive airway management
• Follow isolation precautions and wound care including Wound Vac
• Target nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:6
• Shift: Days
• Call required if called off on a prescheduled shift
• Floating required to similar units and alternate inpatient care locations (e.g., inpatient holding in the ED)
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
• Storm/Hurricane Team participation required; may be called to work during catastrophic events, mass casualty, or disaster
• Attendance at monthly staff meetings required
• Daily census approximately 42 patients; ratios may increase with census

Required Skills & Certifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience in Med/Surg nursing (higher value confirmed)
• Experience in an inpatient setting required
• Oncology Certification (ONC) mandatory; must be able to administer chemotherapy
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Skills in colostomy care, port access, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, PICC line management, heparin and insulin administration, surgical drains, chest tubes, airway management, isolation precautions, wound care/Wound Vac

Preferred Skills & Certifications

• Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification
• Charge nurse experience
• Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN)

Prior Travel Experience

• First-time travelers accepted (prior travel experience not required)

Orientation & Uniform

• Unit orientation: 24 hours (2 shifts)
• Scrubs: Navy blue and white

Systems Used

• PYXIS (medication system)
• EPIC (electronic health record)
• SBAR (communication tool)

Testing & Competency Requirements

• Must pass EKG/Dysrhythmia competency testing within 72 hours of start (minimum 82% score required)
• Medication/Pharmacology competency exams required
• Color Blind Testing within 1 year required
• Other competency exams as applicable

Health & Compliance Requirements

• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (or proof of past positive with documentation)
• Required immunizations/titers: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
• Drug screening within 6 months of start
• Physical exam and other health documents as per travel agency standards
• Background checks within 6 months required

Additional Notes

• No Return to Origin (RTO) allowed after booking; call-offs or additional RTO may lead to cancellation
• Must comply with hospital policies and complete required facility-specific training and documentation prior to start
• May be required to complete additional training modules including medication safety and non-Novant health worker orientation
• Must provide a passport-style photo for badge creation prior to start
• Participation in disaster response teams (Storm/Hurricane Team) is mandatory
