Nights, 36 hours, 7:00p-7:30a, every other weekend and every other holiday. No call requirement. Will be required to work the role of unit coordinator when not actively scrubbing. Must have previous OB surgical experience.

Job Summary
Reporting to the Clinical Nurse Manager, Obstetrical Nursing and the Director, Obstetrical Nursing, provides assistance with nursing care of patients as needed under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse. Nursing care is provided in accordance with the stated philosophy and standards established by the Nursing Service Department and regulatory agencies.
The Surgical Technician in labor and delivery is accountable for the aspects of nursing care they are directed to provide within their scope of practice. Scrubs in, sterilizes, and sets up rooms. Provides clerical and support services to the unit.

Job Functions
1.Coordinates clerical work of the L&D desk.
2.Stocks labor and delivery rooms with supplies.
3.Sets OB tables needed for vaginal deliveries.
4.Assures the safety of the patient population served by demonstrating age-appropriate skills when assisting with nursing care activities as directed by registered nurse.
5.Performs duties generally supportive to the activities of nursing/patient support which do not require nursing assessment skills during their performance.
6.Gathers appropriate instrumentation, supplies, equipment, and suture material needed for cesarean deliveries per surgeons preference card.
7.Assists with positioning of patient on the OR bed, and in moving patients to and from the OR bed.
8.Prepares the sterile field and arranges sterile instruments, supplies, equipment, and sutures on the back table prior to surgery.
9.Maintains integrity and sterility of the sterile field throughout the procedure.
10.Reports immediately to circulating nurse any breaks in aseptic technique.
11.Possesses knowledge of the procedure (cesarean delivery) and anticipates the surgeons needs throughout the procedure.
12.Provides instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment to the surgeon in an appropriate and timely fashion.
13.Implements procedures that contribute to patient safety by performing sponge, needle, blade, and instrument counts per hospital policy, or as requested by the circulating nurse.
14.Prepares specimens correctly and accurately.
15.Prepares contaminated instrumentation for decontamination process by properly transferring and cleansing them per labor and delivery policy at the end of each procedure.
16.Assists circulating nurse in turnover of the room, including washing of beds, and overhead lights, removal of linen and trash, and mopping of floor (when housekeeper is not available.)
