Nurse Supervisor – Day Shift (United States)
Job Summary
Under the general direction of a physician and/or office manager, the Nurse Supervisor provides direct patient care while planning, coordinating, and overseeing departmental nursing activities. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality nursing services in compliance with organizational policies, professional standards, and regulatory requirements.
The Nurse Supervisor fosters a supportive environment for professional nurses and clinical staff, promotes clinical competency, and maintains quality control through leadership in survey readiness and back-office clinical operations. As a proactive member of an interdisciplinary care team, the Nurse Supervisor ensures patients and families receive safe, individualized, patient-centered care.

The Nurse Supervisor upholds the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and the American Nurses Association’s Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics, while supporting service excellence and advocating for the voice of the patient.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions
Clinical Practice & Patient Care
- Performs the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation) using evidence-based practice and critical thinking.
- Delivers relationship-based, patient-centered care that reflects cultural diversity and population-specific needs.
- Partners with patients and families to establish goals of care through effective communication and education.
- Practices in accordance with current clinical standards and professional guidelines.
Teamwork & Collaboration
- Coordinates and documents safe, high-quality patient care using interdisciplinary communication and collaboration.
- Promotes a respectful, inclusive, and fiscally responsible clinical environment.
- Supports recruitment, retention, and engagement of healthcare team members.
Professional Development & Education
- Completes required competency assessments, mandatory education, and population-specific training.
- Serves as a preceptor and/or mentor to nursing staff, students, and unlicensed personnel.
- Models professional nursing practice and contributes to a healthy work environment.
Evidence-Based Practice & Quality Improvement
- Promotes nursing research, evidence-based practice, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Participates in data collection, value analysis, and clinical inquiry to improve patient outcomes.
- Ensures compliance with accreditation, legal, regulatory, and patient safety standards (including TJC goals).
- May serve as a Practice Safety Coach.
Leadership & Staff Management
- Plans, organizes, and facilitates staff delivery of patient care.
- Oversees daily staffing, orientation, competency validation, and ongoing staff development.
- Assists with recruitment, performance feedback, and in-service education.
- Serves as a liaison between clinical staff, physicians, and leadership.
- Collaborates with Clinical Services to develop and maintain clinical competencies for non-provider staff.
- Ensures nursing and medical assistant staff maintain appropriate licensure and credentials.
- Attends Clinical Champion meetings and leads implementation of best practices.
Practice Operations
- Maintains appropriate staffing levels and supply par levels to meet operational goals.
- Supports financial sustainability through clinical excellence and service quality.
- Acts as liaison with Clinical Informatics regarding EHR training needs.
Compliance, Risk, and Human Resource Management
- Ensures compliance with WellStar Health System policies and applicable regulatory guidelines.
- Leads back-office clinical quality initiatives related to survey readiness.
- Participates in clinical site assessments.
- Adheres to human resource policies, assists with hiring, and appropriately delegates responsibilities with oversight.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Associate’s Degree in Nursing (Required)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (Preferred)
Licensure & Certifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Georgia or Compact State)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of RN experience
OR - 1 year experience with 2+ years in a physician practice setting as an LPN or CMA
- Supervisory or leadership experience (Preferred)
- Specialty practice experience (Preferred)
Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of national nursing standards and medical procedures
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Ability to delegate, manage time effectively, and lead teams
- Proficiency with clinical technology and basic computer skills
