Description

Interventional Radiology / Cardiology Registered Nurse (RN)

 

Position Summary:

The Interventional Radiology/Cardiology RN provides specialized nursing care to patients undergoing invasive and minimally invasive interventional procedures, including angiography, embolization, cardiac catheterization, and other image-guided interventions. This role collaborates closely with physicians and an interdisciplinary care team to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care.

The RN utilizes the nursing process, established standards of care, and departmental policies and procedures to deliver exceptional outcomes for interventional and surgical patients. The Interventional RN serves as a patient advocate, provides clinical leadership, and supervises assigned personnel. This position may include on-call responsibilities as departmental needs arise.

The RN reports to the Unit Nurse Manager, House Supervisor, or RN Team Leader.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct nursing care during interventional radiology and cardiology procedures
  • Prepare patients pre-procedure and monitor patients intra- and post-procedure
  • Assist physicians during diagnostic and therapeutic interventions
  • Administer medications, including moderate sedation, and monitor patient response
  • Operate and manage infusion pumps, PCA pumps, and other medical equipment
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols, infection control, and regulatory standards
  • Accurately document patient care and procedural details
  • Supervise and direct assigned nursing and support staff
  • Act as a patient advocate to ensure quality, compassionate care

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in critical care, emergency department, cardiac cath lab, or interventional radiology

 

 Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations:

  • Current RN license
  • BLS and ACLS certifications (current)
  • Specialty certifications preferred (e.g., RCIS, NIH Stroke Scale)
  • IV certification preferred

Equipment / Tools / Work Aids:

  • Infusion pumps and PCA pumps
  • Standard interventional and monitoring equipment
  • Computer systems, printer, photocopier
  • Electronic and/or paper patient charts

Schedule:

  • Day shift: 06:30 – 15:00
  • On-call rotation as needed for Interventional Services
