Locum Tenens – NP/PA, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Virginia Mason Medical Center – Seattle, WA
Position Overview
Virginia Mason Medical Center is seeking a skilled Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for a locum tenens Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery assignment. This role supports a high‑performing, multidisciplinary surgical team led by three plastic surgeons across the Seattle and Bellevue campuses. The practice is approximately 80% reconstructive and 20% cosmetic, covering a full spectrum of plastic surgery services including breast reconstruction, microsurgery, melanoma care, hand surgery, cancer reconstruction, body contouring, and cosmetic procedures.
This position is almost 100% operative first‑assist, with additional involvement in outpatient procedural areas, occasional clinic participation, and rare inpatient responsibilities. NPs will be considered only with significant OR experience.
Assignment Details

- Outpatient clinic
- Inpatient floors (limited)
- EMR: Cerner
- Reason for Coverage: Gap/leave coverage until a permanent provider is hired
Clinical Responsibilities
- Serve as primary first‑assist in the OR for a wide range of reconstructive and cosmetic procedures
- Assist with office‑based procedures in outpatient settings
- Participate in outpatient clinics as needed
- Provide limited inpatient support (rare)
- Perform independent suturing and wound closure
- Support surgeons with pre‑ and post‑operative patient care
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary surgical team across two campuses

Requirements
- Board‑certified NP or PA
- Active WA state license
- DEA
- Extensive surgical experience required
- NPs must have significant OR experience
- Ability to work independently in a fast‑paced surgical environment
Compensation
- $170 Per Hour
Credentialing
- Estimated timeframe: ~90 days
