Job Summary
The Licensed Respiratory Therapist (RRT/CRT) is responsible for assessing, implementing, and evaluating respiratory care services in accordance with hospital standards and departmental policies. This role supports patient care across both critical and non-critical care settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and deliver respiratory care to patients in critical and non-critical care areas, considering age, cultural, and psychosocial factors.
- Verify physician orders and accurately document clinical information in the electronic medical record according to policy.
- Provide invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation, including monitoring patient parameters and response to ventilator setting changes.
- Perform ventilator setup, maintenance, troubleshooting, and adjustments.
- Respond promptly to Code Blue, RIT/CRIT calls, and patient transports.
- Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary healthcare team members.
- Demonstrate professional judgment in response to changing patient or departmental needs.
- Delegate and guide tasks to appropriate personnel as indicated (non-supervisory).
- Establish and maintain respectful, professional relationships with patients, families, and staff.
- Participate in departmental meetings, education programs, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Assist with mentoring and onboarding of new respiratory therapy staff.
- Support quality assurance activities and patient outcome improvement efforts.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Experience
- 0–6 months of related respiratory therapy experience.
- Ability to perform respiratory care procedures, including but not limited to:
- Medication administration via nebulizer or metered-dose inhaler
- Oxygen and medical gas administration
- Humidity and aerosol therapy
- Incentive spirometry
- PEP therapy and chest physiotherapy
- Pulse oximetry and respiratory mechanics
- Mechanical ventilation (invasive and non-invasive)
- Intubation and extubation assistance
- Suctioning and bronchoscopy assistance
- CPR
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail in clinical assessment and documentation.
- Basic computer skills for data entry and electronic documentation.
Education
Required:
- Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care program.
Certification & Licensure
Required:
- Valid Oklahoma Provisional Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) License
OR Temporary Letter to Practice issued by the Oklahoma Medical Board - Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
