Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) – Surgical Acute Care

Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to support an adult surgical acute care unit. This role is ideal for a nurse with strong pre- and post-operative experience who can deliver high-quality care in a fast-paced surgical environment.

Unit Details:

• Adult surgical acute care unit
• 34-bed unit
• Focus on pre- and post-operative patient care

Schedule:

• Three 12-hour shifts per week
• Must be flexible with shifts, weekends, and unit needs
• No on-call requirement

Responsibilities:

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult surgical patients
• Deliver pre- and post-operative care, including monitoring and assessments
• Manage IV therapy, PCA pumps, chest tubes, drains, and post-surgical equipment
• Administer medications and treatments per provider orders
• Accurately document patient care in the electronic medical record
• Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams
• Float to other units as needed to support patient care

Nurse-to-Patient Ratio:

• 1 RN to 5–6 patients

Requirements:

• Active Hawaii RN license (must be active by start of assignment)
• Minimum of 2 years of recent acute care nursing experience
• Strong background in surgical pre- and post-operative nursing
  • Experience with abdominal surgeries (e.g., laparoscopic cholecystectomy, appendectomy)
  • Experience with mastectomies, thyroidectomies, chest tubes, and surgical drains
• Current BLS certification (required)
• ACLS certification (required)
• Ability to float between units as needed

Equipment & Systems:

• Vital signs monitoring equipment
• IV and PCA pumps
• Pyxis medication system
• Electronic medical record (EMR) system

Dress Code:

• Standard nursing scrubs
