Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical

Location: Avon, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)
  • Required Experience: Minimum 1 year Medical Surgical experience
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required (First Time Travelers Accepted)
  • Shift Requirements: 3x12 hour shifts, every other weekend required
  • Floating: Yes, may float to other MedSurg units
  • Staffing Ratios: 1:5-6
  • Certification Requirements:
    • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
    • NIH Stroke Certification
  • Preferred Skills: Cerner experience preferred
  • Indiana Residents: Not accepted except for Periop/OR RN’s, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (these are exempt from the Indiana resident restriction)
  • COVID-19 Vaccine: Required for all travelers (medical or religious exemptions accepted with documentation)

Required Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted (if applicable)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AHA only (if applicable)
  • Chemotherapy Certification (if applicable)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) (if applicable)
  • NIH Stroke Certification
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
  • Unit Competency Exam
  • Color Blind Testing (Ishihara exam or equivalent, 100% minimum score)
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement (HIPAA)
  • State License Verification (within 30 days before start)

Required Background Checks & Documents

  • Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
  • Background Check (within 90 days) including:
    • 7 years residence/work history
    • SSN Trace
    • County, Statewide, National Sex Offender checks
    • FACIS Level III
    • Education Verification
    • International search if lived/worked outside US in last 7 years
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM Check (within 30 days)
  • HHS/OIG Check (within 30 days)
  • Transcript/Diploma (official, clear copy)
  • Education Verification (may be pending at start but must be obtained)
  • Employment Application (current, with explanations for gaps over 30 days)
  • Minimum 2 references from recent employment verified within 2 years (must be from charge, manager, supervisor or above)
  • Skills Checklist (within 12 months, annual)
  • Application must cover 7 years with all gaps accounted for

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical Exam (within 12 months of start)
  • Fit Mask Test (within 12 months) with approved respirators (N95 models or Honeywell N95)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (strongly recommended, preferred but not required)
  • Negative TB Test or Chest X-Ray (within 1 year)
  • TB Questionnaire (updated annually)
  • Immunizations or Titers Required (no declinations accepted except medical/religious exemptions where noted):
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella (History not accepted)
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination
  • Drug Testing: Negative 10 Panel Drug Screen (within 12 months)
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for 2025-26 flu season (no declinations accepted)
  • Color Blind Exam (Ishihara or equivalent, 100% minimum score)

Additional Notes

  • Indiana residents are generally not accepted except for certain specialties (Periop/OR RN’s, Allied, Ambulatory RN travelers) who are exempt from the Indiana resident restriction.
  • COVID-19 vaccination is mandatory for all travelers with limited exemptions.
  • Floating to other MedSurg units is required.
  • First time travelers are welcome to apply.
