Music Therapist – Mental Health Inpatient Unit
Schedule:
40 hours per week, Monday–Friday (day shift)
Rotating weekend coverage
Requirements:
Must be licensed or certified as a Music Therapist
AHA BLS certification required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Utilizes music therapy techniques to support patients' emotional well-being, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Experience working with patients with mental health conditions, developmental and learning disabilities, and age-related conditions.
Strong organizational, multitasking, and interpersonal skills.
Special Training
Proficient in playing guitar, piano, drums, autoharp, and Orff instruments
Strong vocal and singing abilities
Essential Functions
Performs group psychotherapy using music therapy techniques to facilitate non-verbal and verbal communication.
Conducts music therapy and psychoeducational groups for inpatient psychiatric patients.
Maintains competency and certification in music therapy and sustains an active psychiatric knowledge base.
Performs comprehensive clinical assessments and develops individualized treatment plans to promote stabilization in adult and geriatric psychiatric populations.
Completes allied clinical therapy assessments on admitted patients and collaborates with the multidisciplinary treatment team in treatment planning.
Accurately documents and maintains records of all services rendered in compliance with regulatory and facility standards.
Evaluates the family system and provides education, crisis intervention, and therapeutic support as appropriate.
Orders and maintains group therapy supplies within budget parameters and provides recommendations regarding annual budget needs.
Communicates and coordinates care with representatives of other departments and community agencies to support discharge planning and aftercare services.
Participates in unit-based activities, continuing education, performance improvement initiatives, staff meetings, case conferences, and agency-sponsored educational sessions.
