Position Overview
This role is for a Registered Nurse (RN) in Women & Children’s Services, focused on caring for childbearing women (adolescents to middle adulthood), neonates, and families. A critical aspect of this role is supporting the hospital staff during the transition from Meditech to EPIC (Go-live: 5/30).
The RN will be responsible for assessing patient needs, planning and implementing care, teaching self-care and newborn care, and evaluating outcomes.
Minimum Requirements
Education:
- Completion of an accredited RN program.
Licensure/Certifications:
- Current Pennsylvania RN license.
- BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications, with renewals every 2 years.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Strong verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills.
- Able to function as a team member and liaison between patients and staff.
- Professional, tactful, and emotionally resilient, especially when interacting with patients, families, and coworkers.
EPIC Experience:
- Must have prior EPIC experience.
- Must be willing and able to support staff during the transition from Meditech to EPIC.
Supervision
- Reports to the Director, Women & Children’s Services.
- Receives minimal supervision.
Essential Functions
- Patient and Family Care
- Assess patient/family developmental levels, health status, sexual/reproductive history, and learning needs.
- Perform neonatal assessment and stabilization.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Teach patients and families self-care and newborn care.
- Family Support
- Consider family dynamics when planning care.
- Promote understanding of family influence on health status.
- Interventions for At-Risk Patients
- Identify vulnerable families and patients at risk.
- Collaborate with other health care disciplines.
- Facilitate family bonding and support.
- Safety and Wellness
- Promote an environment free from hazards.
- Support wellness and recovery from illness.
- Education and Support
- Help patients/families understand and cope with women’s health issues and childbirth.
- Professional Development
- Maintain clinical knowledge, skills, and competencies.
- Stay updated on professional issues.
