Description
The Registered Nurse (RN) – Critical Care is an integral member of the interdisciplinary care team, providing high-quality, safe, and patient-centered care to critically ill patients. This role practices within a professional clinical environment supported by nurse leaders and the Wellstar Shared Governance Model, Professional Practice Model, and evidence-based practice standards.
The RN upholds all professional nursing standards as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics, while supporting Wellstar’s mission, values, and commitment to service excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Practice & Patient Care
- Utilize the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation) to deliver individualized, evidence-based care
- Provide relationship-based, patient- and family-centered care tailored to population-specific needs
- Partner with patients and families through bedside shift reports, interdisciplinary rounds, and patient education
- Practice in accordance with current clinical standards and best practices
Teamwork & Collaboration
- Coordinate and document safe, high-quality patient care through effective interdisciplinary communication
- Promote a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative clinical environment
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, research utilization, and shared governance activities
- Support fiscally responsible practices that enhance staff engagement and retention
Professional Development
- Complete all required competencies, education, and ongoing professional development
- Serve as a preceptor and/or mentor to nurses, staff, and students
- Model professional nursing practice and contribute to a healthy work environment
Evidence-Based Practice & Quality Improvement
- Promote and participate in evidence-based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement initiatives
- Support organizational policies, accreditation standards, and patient safety goals
- Assist with data collection and collaborate with experts to improve clinical outcomes
Resource Management & Care Continuum
- Proactively plan and coordinate patient care across the care continuum
- Collaborate in the development of protocols and procedures to improve outcomes and reduce adverse events
- Support efficient utilization of human and material resources
Education Requirements
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing – Required
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) – Preferred
Licensure & Certifications
- Active RN License (Georgia or Compact State) – Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – Required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Required within 180 days of hire
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of direct patient care nursing experience required
