Description
We are seeking experienced Med Surg RNs for a high-acuity travel contract on a 14-bed unit within a 483-bed main campus acute care facility. This fast-paced, larger hospital environment requires strong skills in managing a diverse patient population including diabetic complications, CHF, COPD exacerbations, GI bleeds, renal failure/dialysis (supported by dialysis nurse), post-surgical overflow, amputations, wound care/debridements, DVTs, ETOH withdrawal, and psych/behavioral needs (potential future hospice). Emphasis on primary nursing, patient satisfaction, quality care, and strict patient safety protocols (e.g., no artificial/shellac nails due to CLABSI risk, no bags at nurses station, strict attendance). Unit uses Meditech EMR; monitored patients are on a separate unit (nurses not required to read strips). Strict 75-mile radius rule applies—traveler's driver's license address must be 75+ miles from facility and noted on submission (no locals).
Responsibilities
- Provide primary nursing care for high-acuity Med Surg patients with 1:6 ratios on both days and nights; manage complex conditions like CHF, COPD, diabetes, renal failure, GI bleeds, wounds, amputations, and DVTs.
- Administer and monitor Lasix, Bumex, and Heparin drips; support CPAP (nights) and BiPAP as needed.
- Perform thorough assessments, wound care/debridements, and patient education while prioritizing safety, quality, and satisfaction in a high-turnover, fast-paced setting.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team including CNAs (1:12 typical, often pulled for 1:1s/sitters), LPNs/LPN-Cs, dialysis nurse, and charge nurse (does not take assignment unless needed).
- Float to other acute care units, cardio, or EC (ED) for holds as required.
- Document accurately in Meditech; adhere to strict policies on appearance, attendance, and safety.
Shift
- 12-hour shifts (36 hours/week guaranteed)
- 6:45 AM - 7:15 PM and 6:45 PM - 7:15 AM
Qualifications
Required:
- Active Georgia RN license (or compact) to submit
- Minimum 2 years Med Surg experience in a larger, high-acuity acute care hospital (no critical access/small hospital experience; must handle high turnover/fast pace)

- NIHSS
- Experience with similar patient types (diabetic, CHF, COPD, renal, wound care, drips)
- Ability to manage 1:6 ratios comfortably
- Strict adherence to safety/attendance policies (note missed shifts from last contract)
Preferred:

- Experience in larger organizations with primary nursing model
- Wound care and drip management proficiency
Schedule
- 3x12-hour shifts (36 hours/week)
- Every other weekend required
