Pikeville Medical Center is seeking an experienced Travel Cardiac Registered Nurse to support the 6 MAY Cardiac Unit for an 8-week assignment due to a vacancy. This role requires strong cardiac nursing expertise and prior travel experience.

Position Summary

The Cardiac RN provides professional nursing care to young adult, adult, and elderly patients utilizing the nursing process and adhering to established standards of practice. The role supports hemodynamic monitoring, cardiac interventions, and post-procedural recovery in a fast-paced cardiac care environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver direct patient care and continuously assess and reassess patient conditions
• Perform head-to-toe assessments and document findings per policy
• Provide pre- and post-care for CABG and interventional cardiac procedures
• Monitor cardiac rhythms and manage specialized cardiac equipment
• Administer and titrate cardiac medications and IV infusions
• Assist with sheath maintenance and removal; utilize Angioseal/Vasoseal
• Provide care for chest tubes, central lines, TPN/PPN, and infusion therapy
• Utilize ACT machines, sedation protocols, and pain management techniques
• Educate patients and families; develop and revise individualized plans of care
• Serve as patient advocate while respecting confidentiality and cultural needs
• Supervise and support ancillary staff; act as team leader and preceptor as needed
• Assist physicians during procedures
• Maintain accurate documentation and ensure proper equipment function
• Adhere to infection control, safety standards, and hospital policies
• Perform additional duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Education & Licensure

• Associate’s Degree in Nursing (required)
• Active RN License (required)
• Certifications Required:
  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • CPR
  • NIHSS
  • EKG

Experience

• Minimum 2 years of cardiac nursing experience (5 years preferred)
• Prior travel nursing experience required

Schedule & Location

• 48 hours per week
• 12-hour night shifts (7P–7A)
• 4 shifts per week
