Description
Job Summary
Provides direct clinical patient care by evaluating patients, developing and implementing treatment plans, and progressing therapy programs to meet established functional goals. Maintains appropriate productivity standards while delivering high-quality care. Educates patients, families, and healthcare team members and ensures accurate, timely documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care
- Evaluate patients accurately and develop appropriate treatment plans
- Initiate, administer, revise, and progress treatment programs based on patient response and goal attainment
- Establish, monitor, and achieve functional treatment goals
- Carry a patient caseload consistent with productivity standards
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate and complete treatment records
- Complete patient documentation and daily charges on the same day of service
- Ensure patient charges accurately reflect time spent, procedures performed, and equipment used
- Follow care path guidelines for patient/family education and home exercise program documentation
Education & Professional Development
- Educate patients, families, and caregivers on treatment plans and home programs
- Provide instruction to other healthcare providers as appropriate
- Maintain technical competence through continuing education, in-services, and departmental meetings
- Attend at least 90% of required in-services and departmental meetings
Team Collaboration & Operations
- Follow departmental guidelines for daily operations
- Assist the in-charge therapist with daily responsibilities as needed
- Schedule and prioritize daily work assignments
- Delegate patients to RPTAs and support staff as appropriate
- Assist with training of new Physical Therapy employees
- Support Physical Therapy observers, volunteers, and students
Decision-Making & Leadership
- Perform non-routine procedures under general supervision in a dynamic clinical environment
- Coordinate activities and lead peers in similar work functions (non-supervisory role)
- Provide input on performance evaluations when requested
Communication
- Work directly with patients and families
- Collaborate with internal and external customers via phone or in-person
- Coordinate care with other healthcare professionals and staff
Required Skills & Experience
- 0–6 months of related experience
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Ability to educate patients and respond effectively to questions
- Ability to read and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and regulatory guidelines
- Basic computer skills for documentation and reporting
- Strong reasoning skills with adaptability in a clinical setting
Education
Required:
- Graduation from an accredited school of Physical Therapy
Certification & Licensure
Required:
- Valid State of Oklahoma Physical Therapy license OR Temporary Letter of Authorization
- Current BLS certification
