Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) – Flex Pool (Med-Surg / Step-Down)
Job Type: Contract
Duration: 13 Weeks
Urgency: Normal
Shift: 12-Hour Night Shifts (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM)
Schedule: Approximately 36 hours per week after orientation (hours not guaranteed)

Position Overview

We are seeking an adaptable and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for a Flex Pool role supporting multiple medical and surgical inpatient units. This position requires strong clinical skills and flexibility to float across units based on patient care needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, high-quality nursing care across assigned medical and surgical units
  • Float between units as staffing needs require
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and implement care plans
  • Administer medications, treatments, and IV therapies per protocols
  • Manage patients with wound vacs and chest tubes
  • Document patient care accurately using the electronic medical record system
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support patient outcomes
  • Adhere to infection control, safety, and regulatory standards

  • Medical Unit
  • Surgical Acute Unit
  • Cardiovascular Unit (occasionally)

Floating assignments and patient ratios may vary due to census or staffing needs.

Equipment & Systems

  • EMR: Epic
  • Medication Dispensing: Pyxis
  • Clinical Equipment: Wound vacs, chest tubes

Nurse-to-Patient Ratios (Approximate)

  • Medical Unit: 1:8 (Nights)
  • Surgical Acute Unit: 1:6
  • Cardiovascular Unit: 1:4

Orientation & Training

  • Unit-specific orientation provided for each assigned department

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Active State RN License (must be valid by assignment start)
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent RN experience (up to 10 years acceptable)
  • BLS and ACLS required
  • Preferred certifications: PALS, TNCC, ENPC, Procedural Sedation
  • Ability to float across units and work independently on night shifts

  • Holiday coverage: Required
  • Bilingual: Not required
  • Dress code: Professional nursing attire (clean scrubs)
  • Proof of immunity required; medical or religious exemptions not accepted
  • Travelers must arrive prior to assignment start for employee health clearance
