Job Summary
The EEG / Electrodiagnostic Technician is responsible for preparing, performing, monitoring, and documenting non-invasive diagnostic neurophysiological procedures. This role includes patient education, equipment setup and maintenance, data acquisition, artifact recognition, and reporting of diagnostic results while ensuring patient safety and comfort at all times.
Brief Job Description
- Performs setup and preparation of equipment and supplies for ordered tests.
- Reviews patient history, obtains necessary information or documentation, and provides education to patients regarding procedures.
- Monitors and documents patient condition at all times and reports any adverse reactions.
- Operates and maintains a variety of diagnostic equipment, which may include EEG, EP, and PSG equipment.
- Recognizes and corrects artifacts during diagnostic procedures.
- Scores graphs, documents, and reports results of diagnostic procedures.
Required Skills & Experience
- One to two years of experience as a non-invasive echocardiographic or vascular technician is necessary.
- Six months or more experience working in a patient care environment.
Required Education
- High school graduate or G.E.D. equivalent.
- High School Diploma/GED.
Preferred Education
- Enrollment in or graduation from a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program (CAAHEP) accredited Electroneurodiagnostic (END) or Electrodiagnostic (END) program is preferred.
Required Certification & Licensure
- BLS (AHA)
Preferred Certification & Licensure
- Credentialed as a Registered Electroencephalography Technologist (R.EEG.T) or board eligible by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET) standards.
Skills
- Ability to prepare and operate EEG, EP, and PSG equipment.
- Strong patient care, monitoring, and documentation skills.
- Ability to recognize and correct artifacts.
