Description
Interventional Radiologic Technologist
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Procedural Support
- Provide patient care appropriate to the population served in a sterile environment under physician guidance.
- Assist in pre- and post-procedural patient care.
- Cross-trained to scrub on all non-cardiac interventional procedures.
- Document procedural events and medical care accurately in Epic.
- Participate in the Universal Protocol for all invasive procedures.
- Monitor moderate sedation levels in conjunction with the procedure and patient’s clinical condition.
- Initiate patient comfort measures and sedation alternatives when appropriate.
- Ensure informed consent is obtained prior to procedures.
- Operate specialized equipment under limited physician supervision (e.g., rotational angiography with 3D reconstruction, ultrasound guidance, contrast injectors, detachable coils).
Procedures May Include (but are not limited to):
- Mechanical thrombectomies
- Angioplasty and stent placements
- Biopsies
- Line placements
- Thrombolysis
- Embolizations and coil placements
- Drainage catheter placements
- IVC filter placements
Equipment & Department Operations
- Assist in image management and processing.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues.
- Maintain clean, well-stocked procedural rooms.
- Disinfect equipment daily to promote an aseptic environment.
- Review daily schedules to ensure procedural supply readiness.
- Communicate supply needs to material management or leadership.
- Attend vendor in-services and serve as a resource for new technologies and protocols.
Professional Practice & Leadership
- Maintain professional standards in accordance with ARRT and ASRT guidelines.
- Support department and hospital goals through education and process improvement initiatives.
- Assist in data collection and present findings for quality improvement.
- Train and mentor new personnel.
- Coordinate activities of others (non-supervisory).
Required Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited Radiologic Technology Program
- Registered Radiologic Technologist (ARRT)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association
- Minimum 1 year of related interventional experience
- In-depth knowledge of moderate sedation
- Strong technical and troubleshooting skills
- Expert knowledge of catheters and equipment used in non-cardiovascular procedures
- Basic computer proficiency (Epic experience preferred)
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to prioritize and work independently or in a team environment
- Ability to wear lead aprons for extended periods
Preferred Qualifications
- Epic EMR experience
- Level 1 Trauma experience
