Unit Overview
- Unit: Telemetry – 3rd Floor (Cardiac/Med-Surg), 7th Floor (General Tele/Med-Surg)
- Beds: 3rd Floor – 20 beds; 7th Floor – 35 beds
- Nurse:Patient Ratio: 1:4
- Staffing: 3rd & 7th Floor pool together; travelers expected to float between units as needed.
- Orientation: 2 shifts – 1 on 3rd Floor, 1 on 7th Floor
Requirements
- Experience: 2+ years required; prior travel experience preferred but not required
- Must-Have Skills:
- Post-procedural cardiac experience (cath lab, ablations, open heart)
- PCU/Stepdown experience preferred
- Able to read and interpret telemetry and document appropriately
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
Patient Population
- 3rd Floor: Cardiac focus – post-op procedural patients, open heart day 1, TAVRs, ablations, post-caths, pacemakers, general med-tele patients
- 7th Floor: General Tele – post-procedural overflow, CHF, sepsis, electrolyte imbalances, post-stroke, etc.
Drips & Medications
- RNs expected to titrate: Heparin & rarely insulin (facility will train if needed)
- Common drips: Set-rate cardiac gtts, amiodarone, cardizem, dopamine, dobutamine
Unit Support
- Charge Nurse: Present on each shift, generally does not take patient assignment unless needed
- Crisis/Resource Nurse: Available in-house
- CNA Support: 3rd Floor – 3 CNAs; 7th Floor – 5 CNAs; ratios typically 1:8 depending on census
- Respiratory Therapy: Manages vents, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow; RNs assist if needed
- Telemetry Techs: Remote on 3rd Floor; RNs expected to read & interpret strips twice per shift
Scheduling & Shifts
- Shift Length: 12-hour shifts (7a–7p, 7p–7a)
- Scheduling: Made 6 weeks in advance; travelers coordinate with scheduler
- Block Scheduling: Max 5 consecutive shifts; nights grouped when possible
- Weekend Requirement: 5–6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule (days: Sat/Sun, nights: Fri/Sat)
- Holiday Requirement: May be asked, not every holiday
- Floating: Travelers float first; may float to Tele, MS-Tele, or sister facilities in Meridian & Nampa
- Call/Standby: Not typical
