Description
Job Title: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
Location: Madison, WI
Contract Duration: 13 Weeks
Shift: Night Shift (19:00 – 07:30) or Mid Shift (15:00 – 23:30)
Job Summary
Join the #1 hospital in Wisconsin! A Magnet-designated facility and Level 1 Trauma Center, is seeking a high-caliber Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). This role involves working within a premier academic teaching institution, providing critical care across the lifespan—from neonates to geriatrics. You will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to manage complex cases in the ICU, IMC, and Emergency Department.
Key Responsibilities
- Advanced Airway Management: Perform intubation assistance, extubation, and manage various airway devices including nasal and oral airways.
- Ventilator Management: Manage and troubleshoot invasive and non-invasive ventilation, including BiPAP, CPAP, and IMV, with a focus on ARDS and weaning protocols.
- Specialized Procedures: Administer inhaled nitric oxide (iNO) and Flolan; provide tracheostomy care, sputum induction, and bronchoscopy assistance.
- Clinical Assessment: Draw and interpret arterial blood gases (ABGs) and monitor basic EKG rhythms.
- Medication Administration: Safely deliver aerosolized medications (Albuterol, Mucomyst, Pulmicort, etc.) via nebulizers and MDIs.
- Pediatric/Neonatal Care: Provide specialized care for infants and children, including those with Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) and requirements for Nasal CPAP.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: Graduate of a CoARC-accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of acute care experience. Must have experience in an Academic Level 1 Trauma Center.
- Traveler Status: Previous travel experience is highly preferred.
- Licensure: Active Wisconsin Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license required at the time of submittal.
- Certifications: * RRT credential from the NBRC.
- BLS (American Heart Association ONLY).
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Epic EMR.
Assignment Details & Expectations
- Testing: Pass/Fail Telemetry Exam required. Must achieve 100% on lethal rhythms (V-fib, V-tach, Asystole) and 80% overall. Two attempts allowed.
- Floating: Travelers are the first to float. May be scheduled across multiple units or Hospital locations based on staffing needs.
- On-Call: One call shift is required per 6-week scheduling period.
- Schedule: 36 hours per week; every other weekend and holiday rotation required.
- Local Rule: Candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are not accepted.
- Parking: Permit required through Hospital Transportation; off-site options like park-and-ride are available.
