Internal Job Description
Department: Med Tele / Ortho RN - 4th Floor North & South *Certifications: BLS required, ACLS preferred* Radius Rule: 50 miles AND candidates may not be full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity. **Driver's license required at submittal and will be used to determine if candidate is outside 50 miles.** **Fingernail policy: Artificial nails are prohibited in all departments providing patient care- refusal to remove nails will lead to termination of contract * * RN's - Pass/Fail exam on Friday during orientation. OPEN BOOK exam on skills learned - they are given all necessary resources to pass. Must receive a 90% to pass or they will be terminated * * - # of Beds: 55 - Nurse:Patient Ratios: 1:5-6 - Common diagnosis / Types of patients: MedSurg/Tele- joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbation, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, ortho trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, failure to thrive - Are RN's required to titrate drips?: Heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine - Common titratable &/or set rate drips: PCA pumps - Is there a Charge Nurse on each shift? Does the charge nurse take an assignment?: Yes - Are there nurse aids/patient care techs on this unit? Ratios? Duties?: Yes- 1:10-20 - Are there Tele/Monitor Techs on this unit? Are RN's required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors?: Tele techs will interpret, RNs should have some tele awareness - Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?): 0630-1900, 1830-0700 // Travelers will be scheduled. Will approve a limited amount of block scheduling - Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend - Holiday Requirements: 2-3 Holidays from Thanksgiving to New Years. - Floating Requirements: Yes to other medical surgical areas or units with MedSurg patients waiting for a MedSurg bed - Scrub Color/Dress Code/Scrubs Provided?: RNs: Navy Blue - How many shifts of unit/department specific orientation?: 2 days - Additional Notes: Have mechanical lifts in every other room, Big focus on hourly rounding and responsiveness, This unit typically has multiple discharged and admissions in one day- a nurse is successful on this unit when they can manage the business of the day, have good attendance, are a team player, friendly, compassionate, and cares about patients first. They serve patients of all cultures on this unit including Spanish, Karen, Burmeese Radius Rule: 50 miles AND candidates may not be full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity. RTO needed upfront (7 or less days per 13 week contract). Additional RTO will not be approved, including after submissions. Entered On: 12/12/2023
