Job Title: Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Registered Nurse – Contract
Job Type: Contract
Position Urgency: Normal
Duration: 26 weeks
Shift: Variable (8, 10, or 12-hour shifts; Days, Evenings, Nights, Weekends/Holidays)
On-Call: 0–3 times per month
Holiday Coverage: Required
Job Summary
We are seeking experienced PACU Registered Nurses to provide post-operative care for patients in Phase I and Phase II recovery. This role requires advanced knowledge of anesthesiology, critical care skills, and the ability to assess and monitor patient stability following surgery.
Responsibilities
- Provide care for patients pre-operatively and in post-anesthesia recovery.
- Monitor vital signs, incision sites, and other indicators of patient stability.
- Utilize critical thinking to identify and respond to complications.
- Operate and monitor specialized medical equipment (e.g., PCA pumps, IV pumps, monitors, warmers).
- Collaborate with surgical and critical care teams to ensure safe, effective patient care.
- Document patient care and maintain accurate medical records using EMR systems (EPIC).
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience as a critical care RN (ICU, ER) or PACU preferred.
- Active state RN license required upon acceptance of offer; candidates without Hawaii license must obtain one prior to start.
- BLS and ACLS certifications required.
- PALS credential recommended; may be required for pediatric patients.
- Additional specialty certifications (e.g., NIHSS, TNCC) preferred.
- Ability to work variable shifts, including holidays and weekends.
- Strong critical thinking, patient assessment, and communication skills.
- Bilingual skills not required.
Additional Information
- Proof of flu vaccination or approved exemption required before contract start.
- Candidate must attend employee health appointment prior to starting assignment.
- Hours and shifts are variable; no guarantee of preferred shifts.
