Duration: ~13 weeks
Shift: 12 hours, 3 days per week

Job Description – Level 1 RN Psych ER

The Level 1 RN – Psychiatric Emergency Room is responsible for providing comprehensive, high-quality nursing care to patients presenting with acute psychiatric and behavioral health crises in a fast-paced emergency setting. The nurse will perform rapid assessments, crisis intervention, stabilization, and coordination of care while ensuring patient safety and compliance with hospital and regulatory standards.

Required Qualifications

Active RN license
Minimum experience in Psychiatric, Behavioral Health, or Emergency nursing
Strong crisis management and de-escalation skills
Experience working in high-acuity or emergency psychiatric settings
Current BLS certification (ACLS preferred)

Key Responsibilities Perform triage and comprehensive psychiatric and medical assessments for patients in the Psych ER/CPEP unit Provide crisis intervention, de-escalation, and therapeutic communication for patients in acute behavioral distress Administer medications and monitor patient response, including psychotropic and emergency medications Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with psychiatrists and interdisciplinary teams Monitor patients for safety risks, including suicide and violence precautions, and maintain a safe therapeutic environment Coordinate admissions, transfers, and discharges with appropriate community resources and inpatient units Document all assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in the EMR Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, medications, and follow-up care Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and collaborate with social workers, psychiatrists, and case managers Ensure compliance with hospital policies, Joint Commission standards, and regulatory requirements
