Description
Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Respiratory Therapy Supervisor, the Respiratory Therapist (RRT) provides life-support, resuscitation, monitoring, and therapeutic medical gas services to patients across intensive care and general practice units. This role performs both invasive and non-invasive diagnostic procedures and ensures high-quality respiratory care in accordance with clinical standards and hospital policies.
The Respiratory Therapist will maintain clinical competencies, support departmental operations across multiple business units, and collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to deliver optimal patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver respiratory care including oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, and ventilator management
- Perform invasive and non-invasive diagnostic procedures
- Provide life-support and emergency respiratory interventions
- Monitor patient respiratory status and respond to changes in condition
- Document all patient care activities accurately in the medical record
- Communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and healthcare team members
- Supervise and support respiratory therapy staff, students, and externs as assigned
- Ensure compliance with departmental protocols and regulatory standards
- Complete accurate patient billing and documentation
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of recent Respiratory Therapist experience
Required Education
- Associate of Science Degree from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program
Preferred Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy
Required Certifications & Licensure
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) – National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC)
- Active Michigan Respiratory Therapist License
- BLS (AHA or equivalent)
