- Required Experience: Minimum 2 years CVICU / Critical Care
- Weekly Schedule: 3×12-hour shifts (36 hours/week typical)
Unit Overview
- Number of Beds: 16
- Patient Ratios:
- 1:2 standard
- 1:1 for select device patients
Staffing & Support
- Free-floating Charge Nurse available to assist bedside staff
- Unit Secretary & Administrative Care Tech: Monday–Friday, 07:30–15:30
- Student Nurse Externs assist with tech duties on variable shifts
Equipment & Technology
- Philips bedside telemetry monitors
- Hill-Rom beds
- Alaris IV pumps
- Documentation System: Meditech
Scheduling Requirements
- Weekends: 2 weekends per month
- Holiday Requirements:
- Summer: 1 holiday (Memorial Day, July 4th, or Labor Day)
- Winter: 2 holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day)
Floating Policy
- Contract staff may float as needed
- Floating typically to other ICUs, but may include other inpatient units
Required Certifications
- BLS – Required
- ACLS – Required
Required Experience & Skills
Must Have
- Strong critical care background
- Recent CVICU experience
Advanced Skills (Required / Preferred)
- Required:
- Pulmonary Artery (PA) catheter management
- Advanced hemodynamic monitoring
- Preferred:
- IABP (Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump)
- Impella
- CRRT
Procedures & Patient Care
- Immediate post-operative cardiac surgery care
- Advanced mechanical circulatory support including:
- ECMO
- Centrimag
- HM3 LVADs
- Unit-based procedures include:
- Central line insertion
- Swan-Ganz catheter insertion
- Intubations
Dress Code
- Scrubs: Black, Red, or Galaxy Blue
- Outerwear: Scrub jackets or vests only
