Description

Job Title: ICU Registered Nurse

 

Location: Council Bluffs, IA

Contract Duration: 13 Weeks

Shift: Night Shift (18:30 – 07:00) | 36 Hours Guaranteed

Start Date: 03/16/2026

 

Job Summary

Level 3 Trauma Center, is seeking a high-performing ICU RN for a 13-week night shift assignment. This 16-bed Medical ICU manages a wide variety of high-acuity patients, including those with sepsis, respiratory failure, and cardiac emergencies. As a traveler, you must be prepared for a rigorous orientation that includes a mandatory open-book clinical exam where a score of 90% is required to continue the contract.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Critical Care Management: Manage a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio, caring for patients with complex diagnoses such as DKA, STEMI, stroke, and septic shock.
  • Drip Titration: Expertly manage and titrate critical care infusions including Levophed, Neosynephrine, Cardene, Precedex, and Propofol.
  • Advanced Monitoring: Utilize Draeger telemetry monitors to read and verify cardiac rhythms and hemodynamics.
  • Respiratory Support: Collaborate with Respiratory Therapy to monitor patients on ventilators, BiPAP, and CPAP; while RT handles adjustments, the RN must be proficient in troubleshooting.
  • Floating: Maintain flexibility to float to the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) if ICU census is low.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of ICU experience is preferred; must be proficient in managing vents and titrating drips.
  • Licensure: Valid Iowa or Compact RN License (required at submittal).
  • Certifications:
    • BLS & ACLS (AHA)
    • NIHSS (Stroke Certification)
    • Preferred: PALS and TNCC.
  • Compliance Hardstops: * Fingernail Policy: Artificial nails are strictly prohibited. Refusal to remove them will lead to immediate termination.
    • Radius Rule: Permanent address must be over 50 miles from the facility. Candidates cannot have worked for the healthcare system (FT, PT, or PRN) within the last year.

Assignment Details & Expectations

  • Orientation Exam: A pass/fail exam occurs on the Friday of orientation. It is open-book, but a 90% score is mandatory.
  • Scheduling: 12-hour nights (18:30 – 07:00). Every third weekend required. No guaranteed block scheduling.
  • Holiday: Coverage for July 4th may be required if it falls within the contract window.
  • Documentation: Epic EMR system.
  • Dress Code: Navy Blue scrubs.
