Job Description

  • Patient Diagnoses: Medical/Surgical Patients
  • Required Skills/Certifications:
    • Minimum Years of Experience: 2 years
    • Skills: Med/Surg, Heparin, Insulin
    • Certifications: BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)

Job Details

  • Ratios: 1:6-7
  • Shift: Nights (36 or 48 hours accepted; no overtime billed until after 48 hours)
  • RTO (Request Time Off): 7 days MAX
  • Float Requirement: Floating to similar units; float at least once a week is typical
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend required; must be able to work holidays

Additional Information

  • Contract staff will be assigned to work on a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and may be required to report during catastrophic events or disasters.
  • Unit Orientation: 24 hours
  • Scrubs: Navy

Required Competencies and Certifications

  • Must pass EKG test for this specialty.
  • Various certifications may be required based on specific roles, including but not limited to:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure)
    • Chemotherapy certification
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
    • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Flu Vaccination: Required for all candidates by October 31, 2024.
  • COVID-19 Vaccination: Candidates must be fully vaccinated to be moved to the working list (as of June 8, 2023).
  • TB Testing: Required within 1 year of start; specific requirements for past positive TB cases.

Background and History Checks

  • Background checks are required within 6 months of start.
  • Various history checks including EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG are mandatory.

Education and Documentation

  • Education verification required for the highest degree earned.
  • Transcripts/Diplomas may be required for specific roles.
