Unit: SMH Level 1 – Psychiatric Emergency Room
Contract Length: 13 Weeks
Schedule: Day / Evening / Night Rotating | Holidays | On-Call | Callback | Charge per Unit Needs

Job Duties

• Conduct intake assessments through interviews with patients and relatives to gather case history.
• Plan and provide nursing care for psychiatric emergency patients.
• Perform nursing diagnosis of medical and emotional patient status and recommend treatment options.
• Collaborate with psychiatrists and behavioral health staff to develop treatment plans.
• Administer psychotropic medications and monitor / document patient reactions.
• Arrange further medical attention when required.
• Educate patients about emotional disturbances and need for treatment.
• Maintain a safe and secure environment for staff and patients.
• Assess vital signs and pain levels and ensure appropriate treatment.
• Document patient information accurately and follow physician orders.
• Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
• Maintain accurate records of treatments, immunizations, labs, and medical documentation per standards.
• Perform administrative tasks such as filing, answering phones, and completing electronic progress notes.
• Provide courteous, high-quality service to patients and the public and direct inquiries appropriately.

Requirements

• Active New York RN License – Required (NY Only)
• BLS Certification – American Heart Association Only
• Minimum 2 Years RN Experience
• CPI Certification – Blue Card preferred (Hands-on training required)
