Now Hiring: Psych RN – The University of Kansas Hospital
📍 4000 Cambridge Ave., Kansas City, KS
📅 Start Date: 3/15
📆 Length: 13 Weeks
🕒 Shift: 3x12 Nights (1900–0700)
💰 Locals Welcome: $47/hr | $71/hr OT
🔹 Position Overview
This is a highly independent ED-based psychiatric role. ED physicians rely heavily on the RN’s psychiatric assessment and disposition planning after medical clearance. Strong psych nursing skills are essential due to the fast-paced ER environment.
🔹 Experience Requirements
- 1 year ER experience
- 1 year Psychiatric experience (hospital preferred)
- Experience assessing psych patients to determine disposition
- Experience working with violent or high-risk patients
🔹 Primary Responsibilities (PLS Role)
1️⃣ Direct Patient Care
- Provide primary nursing care to two high-risk psychiatric patients in the ED
- Medication administration
- Restraint use & de-escalation
- Coordinate inpatient or state hospital placement
2️⃣ Psychiatric Evaluation
- Assess all psych patients entering the ER
- Determine disposition (inpatient, discharge, involuntary hold)
- Coordinate placement, safety planning, and transport
3️⃣ Crisis Response
- Respond to Behavioral Response Team (BRT) calls hospital-wide
- De-escalation, limit-setting, restraint support
- Collaborate with police and nurse managers
🔹 Requirements
- Active KS or Compact RN License
- BLS
🔹 Additional Details
- Floating: None
- Weekend Requirement: May be asked to work 1–2 per month
- On-Call: None
- Holidays: Required based on unit needs
