Stepdown / PCU Registered Nurse — Nights
Position: Stepdown / PCU RN
Shift: Nights — 3x12s (1845–0715); option for 4x12s if preferred
Schedule: Every other weekend required

Setting: Acute Care Hospital — Level I Trauma, Magnet Facility
Position Summary
The Stepdown/PCU Registered Nurse provides high-acuity, progressive care to adult patients requiring continuous monitoring and advanced nursing interventions. The RN delivers comprehensive bedside care, performs cardiac and neurological monitoring, manages complex drips and lines, and responds to rapid patient condition changes. Candidates must demonstrate strong telemetry, cardiac, and neuro stepdown competency.
Minimum Requirements
- Minimum 1 year Stepdown/PCU/Telemetry experience
- First-time travelers: Not accepted
- Active Illinois RN license required at time of submission
- BLS and NIHSS required
- ACLS preferred
- Cerner experience preferred
- Teaching hospital and Level I Trauma experience preferred
Scheduling & Contract Details
- Floating: Required within scope to meet facility needs
- Block scheduling: May be discussed with manager
- On-call: Not required
- Locals: Accepted (no radius restriction)
- Pending license: Not accepted
- RTO: Ideally no more than 5 days
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay penalty

- Sheath removal and TR Band management
Neurological Care
- CVA and TIA management
- Pre/post neurosurgery care
- Craniotomy patients
- Spinal cord and traumatic brain injury
Respiratory Care
- Ventilated patients
- CPAP/BiPAP and HFNC
- Chest tubes (Emerson / Pleur-evac)
- ABG interpretation
- Tracheostomy management
- Non-invasive airway support
IV & Line Management
- Central lines and PICC lines
- Arterial lines
- Port access
- Peripheral IV insertion
- Blood product administration
- Phlebotomy
Medication & Drip Management
- Heparin protocols
- Cardiac and vasoactive drips (including titration)
- PCA pumps
- Procedural sedation administration
Additional Clinical Skills
- Feeding tube management
- Renal failure and pre/post hemodialysis care
- Wound care and wound vacs
- Isolation precautions
- Surgical drains and skin graft care
- Ortho trauma and joint replacement recovery
